Canada's Next Top Model

Canada's Next Top Model (retroactively Canada's Next Top Model Cycle 1) takes it first season on May 31, 2006 features a dynamic reality show format - in that the viewers not only witness an intense competition to find a top model but also the impact of the competition on and day-to-day lives of a diverse group of contestants.

In the end, Andrea Muizelaar would beat out her competition to become the first winner of Canada's Next Top Model.

This cycle's tagline was "Now it's our turn"

In the premiere episode, the girls arrive in Victoria, British Columbia and receive their first video mail from Host Tricia Helfer welcoming them all to the competition. They are then introduced to first guest judge, "America's Next Top Model" Creative Director Jay Manuel. Jay’s first challenge for the girls is an au naturel photo shoot where they must remove all their makeup and pose for Jay’s Polaroid camera. Some make funny faces and others don’t know how to pose, Jay isn’t impressed. The girls must then assemble an outfit in five minutes and use a winding, uneven wooden deck as a European runway. All the girls have trouble with the challenge, but Jay deems Heather the best of the worst. After arriving at the house, they have a dinner with Tricia and meeting with a model scout to review a European runway walk.

At their first full photo shoot, Jay meets the girls and introduces them to Sima Kumar, the creative director and their Photographer, Andrew MacNaughtan. The shoot's theme is “Iconic Women of Rock”, where the girls get their first taste at professional modelling. First, they would measure their bodies. Even though they all look fierce, Jay says Brandi is the most together “first timer” he's ever seen. Tenika bares all backstage and wins no points with the rest of the girls….or with Tricia.

During the first elimination ceremony, the girls meet the judges. Sylvie's photo is deemed amazing and awkwardly brilliant, but her appearance in judging is unappreciated, and her bad attitude is frowned upon. Brandi, Sisi, and Ylenia impress the judges with their good photos. Heather, Andrea, Alanna, and Dawn are all critiqued on their shy presence in judging, but the judges are satisfied with their photos. Tenika gives a great photo, but is heavily criticized for walking backstage in the nudge. Natalie and Sylvie stepped in bottom two. Although Sylvie’s photo is brilliant, the judges are unhappy with her attitude and appearance at the judging. Natalie's photo also carries a rocker spirit, but the judges wonder due to her tall height, and her being plus-sized, if she can be in a European fashion show. In the end, Sylvie is eliminated due to her bad attitude.

In this episode, the girls receive makeovers by Paul and "Canada's Next Top Model" Head Stylist Greg Wencel. After all the hair is chopped, make-up applied and tears are shed, the girls look and feel more like models. Andrea had a nervous breakdown while she originally intended a long hair extensions but she decided to take short haircut instead. Andrea and Heather transform the most, while others like Sisi and Brandi have practically no changes done to their appearance. Tenika doesn't win any fans at the makeover, being dubbed a diva by Paul and Greg. Paul says he has never worked with someone so demanding and irritating.

This week's photo shoot is themed "Fight Club". The girls are dressed in bikinis in a boxing ring and have slicked back hair and dramatic make-up. In an effort to make them more comfortable, Tricia gives each girl personal instruction before Photographer, Christopher Wadsworth shoots them. With her new style, Andrea transforms into a model while Natalie is still very self-conscious about her body. Brandi and Sisi are very confident about their shoots and themselves - almost too confident, which annoys the other girls.

During the second elimination ceremony, the girls are asked who they think should be eliminated based on what they've learned. The majority think Sisi should go, followed by Brandi. Most girls do well in their photos, such as Heather, Tenika, Andrea, Sisi, and Ylenia. The judges are wowed with Alanna's strong improvement. It comes down to Dawn and Brandi. The judges question Brandi, because of her major slip from last week, and wonder is she has consistency to keep going in the competition. Although Dawn has improved, her presence and low confidence level isn't strong enough to keep her in the competition and she is eliminated.

In this episode, Stacey shows the girls how to really walk a runway...at a bowling alley. She's unimpressed with Tenika, even though she has the most confidence, as well as Andrea, whose walk is extremely awkward. Sisi impresses Stacey and she comments that Sisi is closest to becoming Canada’s Next Top Model. Stacey puts the girls to work in front of a real audience, UVIC Vikes rugby team. Although Brandi has a “wardrobe malfunction” in front of the rugby team, she is chosen as the challenge winner. Where the reward prize was a private jacuzzi back at the house. The girls are excited for an outdoor jacuzzi, Brandi felt cried in her tears and she was bored about her boyfriend at home.

The next day, the photo shoot involves A LOT of diamonds with Cadillac XLR and an emotional storyline, in which they have to play annoyed girlfriends waiting for their boyfriends. Guest Judge, Hollywood Stylist Phillip Bloch directs the girls to give him a range of movement and emotion. Alanna doesn’t really know how to move, Heather can take direction but seems incapable of emoting, and Natalie looks lost. Sisi charmed the camera and photographer with her quirkiness. Tenika has great movement, but the camera can’t capture a frame that has any impact. Ylenia blows Phillip away with her amazing performance. Back at the house, Sisi felt itchy in her hair.

During the third elimination ceremony, the girls are asked to display their runway walk for the judges. All the girls do fairly well. Tenika is the most confident with her walk. The judges are pleased with Heather, because she took direction the best. Ylenia had the best photo, but she was criticized for looking bottom heavy in her photo. Sisi and Andrea both do well, and both look like top models in their photos. Alanna models the car well, but didn't get a hold of the required theme. Brandi grasped the theme, but the judges wonder if she can only do commercial modeling. It is Natalie and Tenika in the bottom 2. Natalie is told she looked lost in her photo, but the judges love her personality, and say they look forward to seeing her every judging. Tenika pulled off a great shot, but her attitude keeps getting worse and worse by the minute. In the end, it is Natalie that is sent home, and even though Paul didn't want to see her go, the rest of the judges realized she didn't have the same amount of potential as the other girls. Tricia then lets her know how much she will be missed.

Australia's Next Top Model, Cycle

Cycle one of Australia's Next Top Model began airing on 4 January 2005 with 10 ladies competing for the title. There was no international destination for this cycle. The season finale was held in Melbourne, Victoria.

The 10 finalists came from around the country and converged in Sydney where they spent eight weeks sharing an inner city apartment while competing for the title of Australia's Next Top Model.

Gemma Sanderson was the winner of the first season and she is the oldest winner of the franchise's history. The prize for winning the first series of Australia's Next Top Model was a contract with Chic Model Management, an all expenses paid trip to Milan to meet with Italian modeling agency, Fashion, an eight page editorial in Cleo magazine and being the face for a national campaign for Napoleon cosmetics for 1 year.

The season premiere begins with the top ten girls from across Australia being greeted by the host, Erika Heynatz. They are then led towards their first challenge in Catalina's for their catwalk show. The girls soon meet Alex Perry, Australia's king of fashion couture, who tells them that they're going to be strutting their stuff down a runway in front of an audience. The girls are then handed the keys to their new Sydney Apartment and excitedly explore their new penthouse.

The next day, Erika has a discussion with the girls about eating habits. They weigh in and have their measurements taken. Later that day, Zoe celebrates her birthday and Erika presents a chocolate cake to her. Nicole revealed that she broke up with her former boyfriend prior to the show. They were then introduced to the Sydney social scene at an A-List cocktail party. Before the party, Atong thought that her wallet was moved and some of her money had been stolen. Back at the house, drama ensued as the wallet issue became a full-on house meeting.

The next day the girls were surprised with Brazilian waxes. Later that night they found some Krispy Kreme donut boxes as well as an Erika Mail hinting about their next photo shoot.

For their first photo shoot, the girls met Michael Azzolini, their personal stylist and helper, who fit them into bikinis and took them down to the beach where some girls did exceptionally well while others flopped. Naomi gets criticized about her undersized body. After the photo shoot, the girls are taken to a bar for a club party. Tensions arise when Allana, against competition rules, met up with some friends in the bar. As a result Gemma and Allana butted heads over the incident.

During elimination panel, Erika and the judges question Nicole on her eating habits. Chloe received a good review as the best photo for the week. The bottom two are revealed to be Naomi and Nicole, and Naomi was sent home for her short height and attitude.

They arrive at horse race track where Erika gave a lesson for horse riding. They proceeded to Dance Studio where they have a catwalk lesson from Alex and fashion model Mink Sadowsky. Nicole called her mother describing her body weight and she was annoyed from other girls in eating situation.

The next day, they were returned to Dance Studio for a catwalk challenge. Everyone is praised in their good walks. Gemma won the challenge and she picked Chloe for one-on-one interview with then-Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins. Gemma knew Jennifer for many years and she is from Newcastle like Gemma.

The following day, the nutritionist arrived and talked about food situation. Some girls are depressed in weight while Gemma decided to clean the house while some girls have just started to get to know each other and already there is tension and bitch fights. They went a salon for a nail polishing makeover where Nicole and Shannon had cleaned their eyebrows as a part of a makeover.

The girls do a photo shoot on horse back. During the photo shoot, Zoe took off her shoes when Erika asked her to wear it back. Allana and Atong were terrified of horses and struggled in their photo shoots. During the elimination panel, Gemma and Samantha (Sam) praised their best photos. Nicole landed in bottom two again with Allana. Allana had a terrible in makeover and catwalk. Nicole is eliminated because the judges feel that she wasn't emotionally ready to handle the modeling industry.

In this episode, the girls have their personalized makeovers when they arrived at Joh Bailey salon. Shannon was ready for her edgier haircut and was pleased in the final result. Allana was saddened in her hair and having to remove her hair extensions and giving a strawberry blonde hair color. They straight went to dentist to having their teeth whitened. After the makeovers, they have to play a pool game where they impressed their excitement. Back at the house, the girls have to watch their audition videos were having fun and excited to see themselves.

The girls arrived at a Manor in Sydney and they paired up to do a lingerie photo shoot in the following pairs:

After the photo shoot, they have a gym session challenge from boxer Kostya Tszyu. Allana interested in exercise training and she worked in fitness industry before. Gemma won the challenge and she intended to chose Simmone for the prize but chose Shannon instead.

The next day, they arrived to Napoleon Perdis salon where they participated for a make-up challenge. Allana was depressed in her eyelashes and it is quite bad. Simmone won the challenge and she picked Chloe for a dinner with 4 bachelors back at the house. While the losers are intended to cook food for the winners and guests. Gemma had a charm with a guy where she had slept and having sex with him.

At judging panel, the judges gave them to do hair and make-up inside the panel. Simmone praised in her best photo. Allana and Atong stand in the bottom two. Erika stated her words, where Allana made a difficult proportion and Atong has a difficulty in motion. Despite having a bad photo shoot, Atong was eliminated.

The girls are to have an acting lesson from acting coach Dean Carey where they teach a lesson of acting. Allana started to depressing her tears that she wants to leave due to her diva attitude. They went in a Pole Studio for teach pole dancing where they have to get single moves in each steps. Allana developed a friendship with Zoe and Sam when she isn't quite happy on her behavior and she would want to see her boyfriend at home.

They have an acting challenge where they paired up with Blair McDonough from Neighbours. Sam excelled in her acting skills while she memorizes her lines and script. She wins the challenge and she takes Zoe and Allana to attend a new fashion magazine launch party as her prize. Sam changed her mind in last minute and picked Simmone rescinding Allana's invitation to join in a part of her victory. Back at the house, they have a time to shoot a commercial for Venus Divine, and told that they have a personality in commercial. That night, Allana has a decision to leave where the other girls have a house meeting to discuss her rules followed in the competition were saying that she is upset for calling her boyfriend. Erika comes at the house for an unscheduled talk to Allana and she feels in her own decision where her boyfriend arrives on time to see her.

The girls are involving for the photo shoot about Beauty Shoots with a spider as their companion. Sam has a fear of spiders. The photographer knew that Gemma was probably the weakest in picture. At the panel, the girls are impressed to see a commercial. The judges gave an acting challenge and they are stand in front of them. Shannon shone in photo shoot. Chloe and Zoe end up in bottom two, Zoe had a social occasion and stayed late in beauty shoot while Chloe had a harsh potential in her look. Both of them were still running in the competition despite Allana's decision to leave.

Britain's Next Top Model, Cycle 1

Britain's Next Top Model, Cycle 1 was the first series of Britain's Next Top Model and it was broadcast on LIVINGtv.

The international destination of the series was Milan, Italy. The prize was a contract management and representation from Models 1, a contract with Ruby & Millie cosmetics, and a fashion cover for B Magazine. In addition, the winner had another contract management from Beatrice Models in Milan.

The show was followed by a short programme entitled 'The Evictees Story' which showed the eliminated model and her journey through the competition. This was then followed by 'Britain's Next Top Model: Confessionals' which showed each girl in the confessional room talking about the other girls which wasn't shown on the show. For the second series 'The Evictees Story' was dropped and 'Confessionals' was dropped for the third. The first cycle was hosted by former supermodel Lisa Butcher and judged along with Marie Helvin and Jonathan Phang.

The winner was 20 year old Lucy Ratcliffe from Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

The 12 girls are picked up across London on a Routemaster London Bus and are taken to met their host for the competition, Lisa Butcher. They met their stylist Hilary Alexander and their personal trainer, Gideon. They proceeded to Leadenhall Market for a runway walk wearing normal clothes and nude costumes. Later that night, they had a dinner with Lisa in a restaurant for having a toast.

The following day, they awoke to have bikini waxes and then they did off the catwalk training with Angela Dunn at Heaven where an argument breaks out between Anne and Tashi. Anne was criticized and she was struggling during the catwalk. Edwina won the challenge and took Naomi and Marina onto a limousine and proceeded to London Eye for received a massage.

The first photo shoot taken in white and black bikinis in individual and group shots. Tension arose when Anne started a complain about modeling. At judging, Marisa praised for her best picture while Tashi receiving a good ability. Shauna and Marina winded up in the bottom two, the judges think Shauna does not have a models figure and Marina's look is one dimensional. Marina was eliminated for her poor ability.

The girls got their makeovers where they meet celebrity hairdresser Lee Stafford. But not everyone was happy with their new look (particularly Anne, at first and reacted badly. Stephanie wasn't happy in her new haircut and hair color). Later, they returned to the apartment for celebrating Shauna's birthday. Some girls had excitement and wore garbage bags.

The next day, the girls had an early start in Isle of Wight for a photo shoot with Nicky Johnston. While at the shoot more fights break out and a rift is caused between the girls. Edwina and Naomi were laughing at Jenilee during her shoot which stirred an argument in the house. Edwina looked bad during the photo shoot and she called her sister on a phone about this.

The girls participated for Ruby & Millie cosmetics challenge. Jenilee won a challenge and chose Hayley and Lucy went on a date with 3 male models, the losers work and serve in a restaurant. The rest of the girls have to work and serve in the kitchen and restaurant – obviously causing tension. Later, a friendship between Edwina and Naomi continued their tension to other girls.

During the judging panel, Lisa gave the girls for an evening attire with make-up in 10 minutes. Tashi, Shauna and Lucy were excelled. Despite a stellar photo, Edwina is scolded for being a diva. In the end, Claire and Anne landed up in the bottom two because of Anne's constant tantrums and Claire's terrible posture. In the end, Anne saved her elimination because of her worst new look while Claire was eliminated that she wasn't happy on set and she had very bad deportment that her modeling dream was over.

The girls faced for a dance lesson for a pop music video. Hayley injured her arm resulting in a vehicular door accident prior to the start of dance lesson and she sent to hospital. The other girls learned a routine and have to put their new skills while some other girls struggled. Hayley reunited with the other girls to do the routine. Edwina and Naomi once again are separated after being accused of making comments on the other girls skills.

The following day, they faced for a pop music video went fairly well for all girls – although Edwina was blamed for hogging the camera. Tashi won the task and with Anne accompanying her, while Lisa awaited them. They were whisked off to a jewelers and gets a £600 necklace.

The girls undergo a close-up beauty photo shoot from Acuvue Oasys Contact Lenses. During the photo shoot, Shauna looked terrible in posing and Tashi's hair looked like mess. At the judging panel, some girls had a freestyle dance in front of the panel without music. Jenilee impressed in her photo and looked good in her face. Shauna and Edwina are in the bottom two, the judges think Shauna's photo was not memorable and Edwina once again gets scolded for her diva attitude. With that, the girl with the best photo got to stay, as Shauna was eliminated although she was good in dance challenge and her body shape may consistently let her down.

This week the girls had an acting lesson in the theatre. The girls are delighted to perform with Paul Danan from Hollyoaks and had to perform a sketch culminating in either an argument or kiss with him. Jenilee was jealous and who went for a latter option in her boyfriend.

The girls met a top casting director where they had to audition for an ice cream commercial. Marisa felt attacked by the commercial director and was considering quitting. Lucy wasn't focused well and she had lacked of ambition for performing the task. Tashi and Naomi won the challenge and went on a date with Paul Danan and Scott Wright in a restaurant at London's West End. However, Anne had decided to quit and she called Lisa in a phone claiming she realized that she didn't like modeling and she asked to leave.

Tashi and Naomi brought Paul and Scott to the apartment for chatting with the other girls. The fights between the girls get worse when Tashi said Naomi snogged Paul at least three times, when Naomi has a boyfriend. Tashi also said Naomi was lying about this.

The girls shot for a shower gel commercial. Stephanie was unhappy and complained in freezing water. After the commercial, another fight broke out because Naomi said that Tashi wet the bed and Tashi and the other girls confronted Naomi. During the judging panel, the girls gave to persuade an imaginary soup for the one should buy. Edwina was praised for her commercial and it did the best. The judges felt Stephanie really struggled the entire week and they felt she was sinking and they thought Lucy wasn't evolving and that they're puzzled as to why she isn't trying as hard as the others and they were went in bottom two. Since Anne eliminated herself, neither Stephanie nor Lucy was eliminated.

The girls spent the day in the apartment where they were tutored in nutrition and attitude. They went off to a boutique where they met fashion designer Maria Grachvogel. They took a Polaroid shot for their looks and a catwalk test. They proceeded to Style Academy for a fashion show where Maria's designs awaited for a collection. Edwina won the challenge and chose Naomi to share her reward of a spa treatment in Harrods.

The winners got a spa treatment and the losers had to model Elizabeth Hurley’s beachwear in the window of a store and they posed as mannequins. But the rest of the girls met Mohamed Al-Fayed while he invited them to tea dinner. Back at the apartment, when they rub it into Edwina and Naomi's faces, things got tense and which did not go down well.

The theme of the photo shoot this week was ‘Fairytale Princess’. But having to pose with a frog as a Prince. Most girls got on the task but Tashi and Hayley struggled causing Tashi broke into tears. Following after the photo shoot, they proceeded at KX Gym Club for a kickboxing class.

At judging panel, Stephanie's and Lucy's pictures were criticized while Stephanie received her best photo for this week. In the end, Naomi and Hayley are in the bottom two. Naomi's picture was good but her walk wasn't. The judges felt like she wasn't delivering that extra something. While Hayley had her worst week yet, and she failed to see it. The judges felt like her walk and her photographs are not the standard that their looking for. Hayley was asked to leave when she was better suited in sportswear modeling and hadn't managed look on.

The girls have a yoga session with Howard Napper while some girls are meditate. After straight from yoga training, they meet with Heat magazine journalist Lucie Cave. They have an interview challenge about their past stories inside a limo lounge. Naomi winds up angry with her critique after the other girls brought up Paul Danan and they have allegations again. Tashi winds up winning because she shared that she was once a size 20. Tashi, Marisa, and Stephanie go for a celebrity night out with Tamara Beckwith, Orla O' Rourke and Angela Dunn. After dinner, Tashi, Steph and Marisa head off to a club and drink until late that night.

The next day, they have a photo shoot for DKNY. Jenilee got cried and she had a harsh condition despite her hard work in modeling. The girls gang up on Marisa because she has modeled before when she was young, makes the other girls seem like the photo shoots and challenges they do are not important, with her constant complaints. This brings Marisa to tears.

During the judging panel, Tashi received a good review in interview skills and having her photo excelled. Naomi and Lucy were also excelled in their good photos. Marisa and Jenilee are in the bottom two. While the judges agree Marisa is high fashion, they're concerned that she has one look. The judges expressed distaste at Jenilee's outburst during the shoot calling her unprofessional. In a shocking elimination, Marisa, the front-runner, was sent home that she wasn't focused in the competition.

The remaining girls had an early wake up for a go-see in Paris by train along with Angela Dunn. Upon arrival in Paris, they learned about Parisian couture and met Parisian designers to brought down in earth with a crash. The designer said Tashi was "too fat to model", Lucy and Naomi are told to lose a few kilos, and Edwina throws Stephanie off her game when she says Stephanie has saggy breasts.

The next day and return from Paris, the girls meet Hilary Alexander at London’s Camden Market the task is to buy an outfit for £30. Naomi and Stephanie were the winners for this challenge and they get a visit from their boyfriends in a fancy restaurant at 1 Lombard Street. Naomi and her boyfriend got along much better than Stephanie and hers. They visit Models 1 Agency where they have another go-see challenge with model director Karen Diamond along with their portfolios. Jenilee was in harsh condition of her height and the agency doesn't require of the height. The girls learn they would be going to Milan and there are only 5 seats on the plane. They have a Haute couture photo shoot and try for their best. Lucy had trouble fitting a dress which it is too small for her where she tried to picked more dresses that would fit for her.

During the judging panel, Lisa gave them a stylish top from a plain t-shirt Parisian couture style. Everyone's picture is praised by the judges. But, Stephanie and Tashi are in the bottom two and they deemed the worst. The judges love Tashi's personality but the judges feel as if her photo should have been better than the one last week. The judges love Stephanie's eyes but the judges feel as if she needs more than one dynamic feature to become a top model. With that, Stephanie was eliminated and left without a plane ticket.

Afterwards, the newly remaining girls are excited for their trip in Milan.

The five remaining girls arrive in Milan. Where they have a tour across the city. They arrive in a hotel where some rooms cause problems. That night, they go for dinner with Lisa and each girl gets a chance to talk to her about their journeys so far. They went to Beatrice Model agency where they have a go-see with Paola and they proceeded to Guerriero store where they have to wear a formal dress for a red carpet style. In a shocking elimination, Tashi and Naomi wind up in the bottom two. The judges say Tashi is great on the catwalk but her photographs are inconsistent. They also say Naomi has a beautiful face made for TV commercials and beauty campaigns but they feel she may not be able to cut it in all areas. Naomi became the first girl sent back home.

The girls are stunned about Naomi's shocking departure. The next day, the girls were split into two groups across the downtown where they have a red carpet dresses for their photo shoot. Some girls struggle with a photoshoot with top Milanese designer, Stefano Guerriero. Jenilee and Tashi won the challenge and they have a dinner in a classic Italian restaurant where Lucy and Edwina cook and serve pizza for the winners. The girls, specifically Tashi, comfront Edwina about the idea of rotating bedrooms so that everyone's happy. When Edwina refuses, Tashi says "the war is on, I am not sleeping on that sofa!".

During the panel, Jenilee was expressed in her look and praising her photo. Edwina and Tashi are in the bottom two. The judges think Edwina's pose was the best, but her facial expression let her down. The judges think Tashi's facial expression was soft and different but her pose wasn't that great, and eliminate her.

In the finale, the girls are taken for dinner by Lisa to congratulate them and celebrate. She gives them each a gift to mark their success.

The next day, the girls have a topless photo shoot with male models. Some girls are quite impressed in their looks. Following the photo shoot, they have a dinner accompanied with the following male models:

At the elimination, Edwina is praised for taking her best picture. Lucy and Jenilee also receive universal praise, but find themselves in the bottom two for not proving enough that they are great runway models. and Jenilee is sent home amidst a flurry of tears.

The finalists were given the day exploring the city and go against each other. Lisa surprised them and takes them shopping at Armani. As the girls parade around the shop in the clothes, Lisa announced they would taking part in an exclusive fashion show for Giorgio Armani's Spring Collection in Milan. The final runway show took place at Sheraton Diana Majestic Hotel where Lisa shows the girls for a catwalk. Stefano opened the show while the girls step up to the challenge and perform well. At the judging session afterward, both were praised for their performances. They are both called back and the screen revealed Lucy won Britain's Next Top Model.

America's Next Top Model, Cycle 1

America's Next Top Model (now retroactively known as America's Next Top Model, Cycle 1) is a reality show hosted by supermodel Tyra Banks, which aims to find the next top fashion model. This season's catch-phrase was: "One Girl has what it takes."

This was the only season to feature a cast of 10 contestants. All later cycles have featured at least 2 more contestants. The international destination for the cycle was Paris, France. The prizes for this cycle was a contract with Revlon cosmetics, a contract for representation with Wilhelmina Models and a spread within Marie Claire magazine.

20 year old Adrianne Curry from Joliet, Illinois won the competition, but has claimed that she did not receive all of her prizes, leading to a feud with Tyra Banks.

Twenty semi-finalists arrived to casting and were told that only ten would move on to the finals. After the auditions however, Tyra revealed that she and the producers only could agree on eight. The eight contestants selected arrived in New York City and were escorted to the loft apartment in the Flatotel. In one room, they discovered pullout mattresses underneath their beds. Two additional contestants, Giselle and Tessa, were soon added to the group after being scouted at a separate audition, filling in for the missing two finalists.

After Brazilian bikini waxes were administered to the contestants, and initial weights were recorded, the contestants headed to their first photo shoot; modeling JLO by Jennifer Lopez swimwear atop a Manhattan skyscraper in frigid weather. At the first judging session, the judges felt that Elyse was too thin, and that Tessa had been taught how to pose incorrectly. They also remarked that Shannon looked much better in her pictures than in front of the panel, and perhaps she has tanned too much. Finally, the judges decide to eliminate Tessa, because even though she had a strong high fashion look, they thought that she lacked the personality to be a model.

Tensions erupted in the loft between the Christians - Robin and Shannon - and several other contestants, especially concerning Elyse's atheism and Ebony's homosexuality. After a runway lesson with J. Alexander, Giselle won the reward for doing the best on the runway. She got to meet Wyclef Jean, and she picked Adrianne, Nicole and Katie to accompany her much to Ebony's dismay. When Ebony decided not tell them about the Tyra Mail which arrived while they were out, the Christians went down to the hotel's lobby and told the other girls about the Tyra Mail. The next day Robin, to ease the tension among the girls, decided to make a group prayer, irritating Elyse, who went to the confessional and vent about her anger towards other contestants.

The second photo shoot was another bikini shoot, but this time for Stuff magazine. At panel, the girls were challenged to walk while removing their coats. Katie's photo was again criticized for being pornographic, while Kesse became very emotional while critiqued. This landed them into the Bottom Two. Ultimately, it was Katie's overt sexual appeal sent her home.

All eight remaining contestants were given makeovers. Giselle irritated her roommates because she overacted during it, while both Robin and Ebony were dissatisfied with the way their hair was handled. After a lesson on how to achieve a clean look, the reward challenge involved doing the best job picking out and putting on makeup, which Elyse won, and got to meet some famous fashion people, including Max Tucci. She picked Adrianne and Nicole to thank them for help and wound up picking Robin by draw. Nicole decided not to go because she was "sick", but it was really because she wanted to talk to her boyfriend.

Later it was announced that each contestant would be posing with a guest model in the week's shoot — a snake. Robin, especially, was terrified by the snake, but most of the girls managed to take strong pictures. The day after the shoot, Adrianne was rushed to the hospital with severe food poisoning, and she later forced her way out of the hospital and back to the competition so as not to be automatically eliminated, impressing the judges. At panel, Ebony was criticized for the texture of her skin, and Nicole was ousted as she was deemed not committed enough to the competition.

The seven remaining contestants were challenged to polish their acting skills. The reward challenge, a line-reading challenge, was won by Robin, who took Kesse and Shannon to get a spa treatment. The other girls were left to clean the apartment while the spa experts came to them and gave them their spa treatments in the apartment. Ebony was angry with Giselle after she exhibited laziness by not helping the others clean, and asked the masseur for an impromptu massage instead. Ebony's girlfriend, Ka visited her and although most of the girls were polite and introduced themselves, Shannon and Robin chose to stay in their room and read the Bible, which Ebony took offense to and felt that they were being hypocritical and homophobic. Shannon later apologized to Ebony for coming across as bigoted and even herself admited that she needed to become more tolerant of people with different sexual orientations if she planned on pursuing a modeling career in the fashion industry.

The commercial was for Fresh Look contact lenses. At panel, while Kesse excelled, several girls were given harsh criticism for their performances. Adrianne was told that her accent was too strong, and that the judges barely heard her and Shannon was admonished for her awkward smile and lack of sexiness. However, she was safe from the bottom two, where Giselle and Ebony found themselves. The panel said that although she had amazing model potential, Giselle needed to become more self-confident. However in a shocking elimination, Ebony, the early frontrunner to many of the girls, was eliminated due to her awkward performance in the commercial and that the judges felt she had a chip on her shoulder.

The girls were taught how to answer interview questions in this episode, and they had one-on-ones with a coach. While Elyse was being interviewed, the other girls gossiped about her weight and talked about incidents which they believed proved that she had an eating disorder. At the challenge, the contestants tried to impress a tough interviewer, and Elyse's candid and outspoken remarks won her the opportunity to invite one of her loved ones to New York for a brief visit. She selected Adrianne to share her prize, who broke down into tears, stating that her mother had never been to New York and that her family never had enough money to travel.

At the photo shoot, to which Elyse's boyfriend Martin Crandall and Adrianne's mother showed up, each model was pictured in Reebok shoes with NFL Rookie of the Year Clinton Portis. At panel, Elyse was criticized for being too thin and being a know-it-all, and Giselle was sent home at panel because she was not able to overcome her self-confidence issues, despite her modeling talent and phenomenal photo for this week.

The five remaining contestants - Kesse, Robin, Elyse, Shannon, and Adrianne - were told that they would be flying to Paris, the fashion capital of the world. In their hotel, Robin was picked by draw to sleep on the floor, much to her dismay. They had a lingerie shoot for Wonder Bra with male model (Brad Pinkert from Buffalo, NY) whom Shannon had a crush on, and each girl was given the opportunity to go on several "go-sees" to impress Parisian designers.

Adrianne was fazed after an unwanted encounter with a man who tried to reach up her skirt while asking him for a directions and had difficulty collecting herself. Kesse spent a little too much time visiting Paris, making her miss one go-see and Robin paid someone to accompany her, for which she was admonished by the judges. At panel, Elyse was praised for her go-sees while Kesse and Adrianne found themselves in the bottom two for not attending all of their "go-sees", and Kesse was cut for not demonstrating enough desire to continue in the competition, despite her high likeability, which brought most of the judges and contestants to tears.

This week, the remaining four girls had their pictures taken by Tyra in an impromptu black and white photo shoot. Then, they traveled to the House of Carven, the oldest couture house in Paris. They learned how to embody couture gowns with an alluring attitude. Back in the house, the girls received Tyra mail saying that they would have some free time the following day. When Adrianne said she wanted to visit Jim Morrison’s grave, it ignited a conflict among them, specifically with Robin who wanted to go shopping. Eventually the girls would split in groups of two (Shannon with Robin and Elyse with Adrianne).

For the week’s challenge, the girls went to Fouquet’s Restaurant and met four gentlemen, who judged them in their ability to carry themselves in a couture situation. Adrianne’s shining personality charmed the gentlemen and she was chosen as the winner. She picked Elyse to join in her reward which was a one night stay at the Presidential Suite in Le Méridien Hotel. The next day, the girls arrived at Buddha Bar for a nude photo shoot for Merit Diamond Jewelry. However, this did not go well with Robin and Shannon as it was against their belief, and decided not to participate, despite being offered to pose in flesh-toned lingerie.

The girls returned to New York and shared the Milan Room. At panel, Elyse was called first for her versatility and followed by Adrianne who took a stellar photograph. Robin was accused for shaking her breast at Jay Manuel making her decision not to participate in the nude photo shoot seem fake while Shannon was criticized for her inability to follow advice, although she as well did not take part in the nude photo shoot. In the end, Shannon’s outgoing personality saved her and Robin was sent home.

The three finalists were evaluated by Kimora Lee Simmons and again by the judging panel to get booked for the finale runway show. Shannon was called first while Elyse and Adrianne - a pair that had become close friends through the competition - were placed in the bottom two, and Elyse, the front-runner, was ousted because the judges felt her speech sometimes came across as careless and that she had not taken to heart the judges' credence in modeling being a profession that required both brains and beauty.

Soon after this, Adrianne and Shannon faced off on the runway modeling Baby Phat fashions, and finally both girls faced the panel one last time. During evaluation Shannon was praised for her runway walk, receiving Janice Dickinson's support, and her eloquence but was criticized for being too commercial and safe. On the other hand, Tyra revealed that she was pleasantly surprised Adrianne made it that far and she was also praised for her edge and character, although her speech was criticized. After evaluating, Tyra said that America's Next Top Model would be revealed on a large cover of fictional ANTM Magazine behind the judges' panel. The sheet draped over the picture fell down as Adrianne was declared the first winner of America's Next Top Model.

Miss Universe 2011

Miss Universe 2011, the 60th edition of the Miss Universe pageant, will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 12, 2011 in location to be announced. Ximena Navarrete of Mexico will crown her successor at the end of the event.

Olivia Pinheiro has declined to represent her country in the 2011 Miss Universe pageant, according to a press release sent by Promociones Gloria, national license holder of Miss Universe in Bolivia, on Thursday, January 27, 2011 due to controversies about her real age. Local news programs inform that Promociones Gloria will choose the new Miss Bolivia 2011 in the month of June, and the winner from this contest will go on to represent the country in the 2011 Miss Universe pageant in São Paulo.
