Your lawyer seems to be incorrect on this. You may want to consider getting second opinion.
AC-21 can be invoked on H1 as well as on EAD. Your choice.
Many times, joining second employer is relatively easy on EAD as it involves no H1 filing (less paperwork), but using EAD requires one to travel ONLY on AP.
Using H1 is more peace of mind. If for some reason I-485 is denied, one can in US (and work too) until H1 status expiry date and handle appeal more effectively.

reality is, a contraction of US growth of this magnitude was never anticipated...there is strong fear of deflation!
its a do or die situation for immigrants. regardless of the visa status EAD , H1, L1, B1...or Z1.. the only hope of us to get a temp fix which helps the housing/eb crisis..

First they should give detailed plan out. even then point system is a pain , no benefits till final stage. its good for all right if one has to sit in 25 years waiting for his turn on visa instead of green card... good luck for all who support this. Other countries who use point system compare the numbers... US has far more immigrants than any other country... if point system is open everyone can apply. But thats good ... but in negative side how can you control huge workload w/o increasing numbers and infact other countries doesnt have numerical limits they control by points. if US has numbers and then point system nothing but taking away all of our benefits go back and wait for 20 years one way of saying go back. realize it.

1) I would go with travelers cheq's like "srinithati" mentioned. That way it wont be a problem asking someone to bring along with them when travelling from India to USA
2) If you still have any money on your NRI account , check to see if its re-patriatable type. If you what-ever money you have on you URI account ( except the minimum balance you might need to keep you can convert back to dollars.
3) May eb we should think about Hawala ( India -> USA ) due to these conversion rates

Just have DoS (dept of state) make the bulletin move forward or make current for a brief time, then they can approve applications in any order convenient for them. Then move it back again so no one can send them new applications.

Need Approval in Hand.. Receipt Notice Does not work in most of the states and new states are adding this as requirement every month...
I had similar issue for my spouse on H4. Was out of license for about a month... It would be a good issue to be brought up at Sep 18 Rally and added to core issues handled by IV in general. Lots of future immigrants are facing this.. But we need a collective voice as usual with any immigrant issue to get a resolution.. More and more states are joining to make Driver License as your "Immigration Status Document" causing "LEGAL to work but NOT LEGAL to drive" situation....

Even if its multiplied by 100 we should be ok, if the USCIS does a good of not waisting visas by doing their best in the month of Sep. Say we have 6500 * 2 .25 (Family) = 15000people waiting from EB2 2004. Looking at the spillover numbers from last year, we might be lucky enough. Just trying to be optimistic for the next 35 days.
We received our 2nd biometric appointment notice for Sep 11th. Our Notice date is Sep 19th 2007. Just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for something good. :)

I don't think it will make a huge amount of difference. The visa loss is due to lack of manpower in processing applications. Now there will be even more applications and presumably no extra hands to approve them.

Actually very true. I for one have held off on buying a gun (though my wife highly disapproves of guns) simply because I dont have a GC and dont want any hassles. Besides I live in Chicago which has a ban on guns. Ironic that the maximum killings and drive by shootings happen maybe 30-40 blocks from where I live but the city doesnt allow legal law-abiding residents to own guns.
Maybe we should tell NRA that lot of skilled immigrants will buy guns once they have GCs. That could be the fastest way for us to get some lobbying money. It could work faster then the message on "buying houses".

Considering all this all financial advisors (the ones not working on comission) recomend getting at least 10 times your salary for the working spouse and 0 for non-working spouse and none for children. The other part of their recommendation is that buy level term for the period you anticipate taht you will be working. This ensures that you pay the same premium throughout the period of policy, you dont get anything back ever, though the beneficiaries will get the benefit if you die before the term expires.
The cost of these plans for a healthy person between ages 25-35 is around $20-40 a month.
A lot of people push whole life insurance but you dont really need a whole life insurance anyways, and the investment component comes with huge cost, same with universal life insurance.
I know a lot of people will diagree with the views presented here but these are based on several advisors that dont make money off of their recommendations. I just happen to agree and if you choose to disagree that is just your point of view and I respect your decision, so please dont start arguing with me.

Applied for EAD extension on July 08-2008 (expiring on Sep 30-08), less than 90 days. Got a 2 year extension in Mail Aug-14-2008 (Approval date Aug 07-2008).

Knowing about future, or predicting what is to come, would help if we ought to do something in preparation; an advance action, such as nailing our windows shut if we are predicting a storm. That is not the case here. Therefore, sure shot 'prediction' is just to wait and see. It is only a few days away. If new cutoff date encompasses your PD, pray and check your email every day (or every hour or even minute), and hope for the best.
I agree with you. Next week we will see the bulletin and then some people will be elated if their predictions come right and some will be disapointed. Again in 20 days we will start a new thread for Oct bulletin and FY 2010. I guess it is just that we are keeping alive our hopes.
