If these #s are released, lets say 12K, or whatever:
How will these affect the processing times.
I guess these cases that qualify are all propbably pre-adjucated. In that case will it increase the processing time for PERM, I-140 and 485 stages.
How will EAD and AP extensions get affected.

I am taking breaks from work and calling.
Rep. Johnson (GA): - talked and response was OK
Rep. Baldwin (Wis): - talked with a lady. Excellent response.
Rep. Berman (Calif): - talked and good response.
Ironically everywhere the person who takes the call says s/he can handle the matter.
I will keep calling and contact everyone on the list till evening.

Interview date: February 6th
Consulate: Chennai
Case: H4 for my wife(Same firm three year extension for my H1B)
PIMS verification done by DOS on February 25th
Passport sent to VFS for delivery on February 26th
To those who did not get it yet, I suggest calling the DOS (202-663-1225) in the US and find out what is happening. They are more likely to give you better information than your lawyer or the consulate staff in India. I wish the consulate staff in India were more courteous.
Extension cases are taking longer than new petitions. Typical processing times 10-15 days. In our case it took 11 working days for verification.
To those who intend to travel to India for a new Visa stamp, call the DOS and verify that your information is in the system. Just tell them that you need to travel and would rather make sure the information is in place and then make travel arrangements. If you just have a week's vacation time be prepared for flight extensions as it takes more than a week to process the extension cases.

Hello World Max for only $23.95 /month provides unlimited calls to india as per link posted earlier by some one on this thread.
https://www.lingo.com/shop/promotions/helloworldmax.jsp
However I see no details if they allow calls from cellphones too, as some one pointed out. That was the major difference between vonage and lingo.
if anyone has details, please share. Till that time, I would continue using tata trueroots for 2.9 cents a minute promo. Thanks!!!

I am in EB3 and I have no intention to port my PD to EB2.I strongly believe we are in the last fag of the problem.
Why do you want to spoil others chances?- Are you scared or what?
This shows another example why we are not united.
If DOL had only cleared those poor old needed filers without opening a backlog ,EB3 woudn't have become a laughing stock by you fellows. There was not much big difference between EB2 and EB3 earlier years before.
That was the reason most of us agreed when we filed under EB3.
If they hadnt wasted the visas -EB3 and EB2 should have diff of 2 years only.
Thats the reason why EB3 is mad now.
Whatever - People supporting this cause are mere selfish.
If the EB3 guy wants to port to EB2 whats yr problem -
Already EB2 is flooded with applications -Most of them know what is happening and people want only EB2 status.Thankfully there are real IV members who are against this.
There are more exerienced and qualified EB3 people than me too.Dont spoil others future.
Lol! down this act and get rid of the attitude. There is no success in such selfish decisions.
Like how you need GC everyone needs GC to stay in this country.
you have no right to bring distress to another person's life.
Infact your are motivating EB3 to move to EB2 .
Thankyou.

Most of what Hunter has said is not wrong. Exploitation and malpractices by small/big consulting companies is a reality. All of the Indian immigrants know it. Indian workers submit to it because it still is a very good bargain.
But then there are other things that he is simply stereotyping because of personal impact and resulting hatred. Generally implying that foreign workers are crap and cause wage depression isn't true. Wages in IT industry are destined to go down with time because of demand/supply equation. It's nobody's fault that India/China are on the supply side (be it here or there respective countries). Moreover an individual with the will to uproot himself from the other side of the world and come here generally has much stronger zest to make it big than live an average life.
With regard to quality of professionals overall I don't see a marked difference between American and non-American workers. Moreover, I don't think that employers will employ substandard labor just because they are marginally cheap, because it turns out to be more expensive. In all the cases that H1-B and L1 pocket less money than their counterparts the booty goes to middlemen(both Indian and American bodyshps) and not the companies that ultimately use their skills.
What we all need here is a common-sense and honest approach to immigratiion. Also, we must understand that much is driven by forces of capitalism and they are strong enough to find a way, protectionism or no protectionism.

Exactly!
So then we all need to agree that the person foreclosing has no right to blame the lender. It is people like you and me whose tax money will be used to bail out banks that have the right to blame them AND the borrower! :)
100% with you. What is so irritating is that these guys (both bank and the individuals) are getting away with 'nobody saw this coming'. I have been begging my friends not to get into this mess for years. If I can see this, I am sure the banking professionals, economist would have seen this too. They just wanted to make money (greedy %&*^%^&*). Probably they thought the government will bail them out since all the banks are doing it anyway. After this mess is cleaned out, no one will again talk about flipping house for a long long time:D

I completely agree with your last 2 lines. But I don't agree with the even dividing of the number into 5 categories of I,P,C,M,ROW.
Let's take an example. Suppose for some odd coincidence....the first 8000 odd EB3 apps that USCIS processes starting Oct 1.....none are from I,P,C,M. Suppose First 2500 are from Uk, next 2500 from France, next 2500 Germany and the next 508 from Pakistan. Now the number for ROW at this point would be 8008. Now they get another app from UK next. Will they refuse to process that app as the ROW figure had reached? Then they will still process more than 2500 for I,P,C,M. Won't that be unfair to UK applicants.
As I have said a couple of times now, and so have a few others - ROW cannot be capped at X/5. Due to the high demand from I,P,C,M....it likely gets a MINIMUM of (100 - (7 X 4)) X EB3 cap.
That was a ateempt to establish a "fair assumtion" so It may be wrong. But simultaneously you also should not assume FIFO within EB-ROW as you tried to explain as we really do not know whether USCIS follows FIFO.. Bottomline USCIS, by law, can not exceed 9% limit for any ROW based countries (Britain, pakistan,...) as well.

If these are pending 485 applications at USCIS, Number of pending applications with PD later than JUL 2007 should be zero.
If these are labor filings, they probably dont include dependents.

Everyone knows that increasing green card numbers will be best solution. In that also if we ask too much we may not get anything. Double the number of annual Gc plus exclude dependents will be enough for reducing retrogession but that may not eliminate. But waiting period of 2 to 3 years can be reasonable for most people. I am sure one more chance will come for increasing H1b numbers. That time we can try for GC increase also.
But I am supporting the flower Campaign for protesting the VB mess up though it will not solve the problem
You seem to be pretty good at analyzing faults in others' ideas and thoughts . What are your suggestions to acheive releif from retrogression.
Smitha,
You can suggest too ...

One more company that does not hire on EAD is Applied Biosystems
There is a whole lot of good information about citizenship or immigration status discrimination at http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/osc
From their Employee Brochure:
http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/osc/pdf/publications/en_wbroc.pdf
From their Employer Brochure:
http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/osc/pdf/publications/en_guide0507.pdf
From OSC Update newsletter April 2004:
http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/osc/pdf/osc_update_APR04.pdf
FAQ:
If you are told by an employer (verbally or in writing) that they will consider only citizens or green card holders, call the OSC hotline. They may not give you the job based on some other criteria but they will not discriminate anybody else in the future.
If you find any job posting or ad which states that they will hire only citizens or green card holders, or explicitly declines to hire somebody with EAD, post it here. If you don't wish to, maybe somebody else can make the call.
In most cases it would be pure ignorance on the recruiter's part. A simple phone call from OSC will clear that.
Of course the best course is to avoid bringing up EAD in the first place. But if it comes to that, you can reach out to OSC, even if you don't have anything in writing.
