Hi
I know there was old thread related to Life insurance but could not find it so starting new thread.
I am 41 yrs of age and smoked cigerates more than five yrs ago.
I tried to purchase TERM LIFE insurance for myself.
For 350,000 $ policy - 20yr term - Newyourk Life gives premium of 685 $ per year.
Where as Prudential for 3,50,000 30 yr term gives premium of 827$.
Both policies include premium for DISABILITY WAVIER OF PREMIUM rider.
Does above premiums are too high, too low or OK.
I tried to talk to couple of americans in my office and they are getting quite low premiums compare to US.
Please give some ideas if you have bought or tried for term policies before.
thanks
Try www.insweb.com (http://www.insweb.com), www.insure.com (http://www.insure.com), and www.equote.com (http://www.equote.com). You will have a choice of insurers and competing quotes. Insurance premiums differ from one company to other based on several factors....whether it is life, auto, homeowner, etc.
Thanks,
Jayant

Thanks a lot. This PIMS stuff is causing so much headache. I am surprised that it takes them ages to put the petition in the system. My wife got her h-1b in 2007 and its still not in the system

Take it from me guys, all of this "pre-adjudication" thing means nothing. You can still get denied, you can still get RFEs when the officer re-opens your file to adjudicate, they reserve the right to go over the case with any new interpretations of the laws they may come up with in the future if they wish to make things more restrictionary. Basically "pre-adjuducation" is fools gold.
I have had my 485 pending since Aug 2005. Over the years, my PD has been current on two separate occasions since then, once for 2 months and once for 3 months. I have had 2 RFEs over the years. I am still waiting.
Absent a sustained visa date movement past your PD, which basically means visa recapture. We will all be waiting for years. In this time a job loss, an injury that renders you unable to be employed, anything that makes you fall out of status, restrictionary local laws(eg Drivers license) basically anything can affect you.
The single most important thing for those of us at the 485 stage is visa recapture. Absent that, not much else will help in the near term IMHO.
Well said.

If you filed a Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, on July 30, 2007, or after, then no fee is required to file a request for employment authorization on Form I-765.
The above text is copied from the USCIS website.
Does the same apply to July fiasco filers? Some of them might have filed 485 after July 30th, isn't it? As in my personal case I filed my 485 on August the 11th 2007.

Hello,
I know of a few people who may have a lot of influence in either increasing membership drive or are extermely politically active. But I am not comfortable asking them for favors. I am sure there are others like me who know these kind of individuals. Maybe we should have in the members only forum a list of these individuals that IV can approach. I know in a perfect world I should tap these resources but I am unable to. But I know they will help this group.
Why don't we have a list of key contacts generated and that way IV can appraoch them requesting for our cause to be addressed.
Any thoughts!!!

Imagine yourself 30 years from now. Most of us would be reminded of our parents. They struggled hard, raised us, provided for us and made us what we are today. There will be not one of us who doesn't regard the sacrifices their parent has made for them as one of the biggest blessing the Almighty has given us.
Imagine yourself 30 years from now. A 5 year old granddaughter in your lap. A spitting image of her mother, your daughter. A daughter you raised in a country foreign to you; made sure you protected her, tried your level best to instill all your values in her, drove her to dance classes both bharatnatyam and ballet. Made sure she got the best of East and West.
Your granddaughter looks up to you and asks - Thata, how did you come here? And like all immigrants your story will one of determination and courage- a story of slogging through grad school scrimping on a modest GRA allowance. Saving money to buy gifts for relatives back home. In this story there will be a time when you talk about the struggles for your green card. Graduation in a recession, finding that one interview, converting it to a job and then starting the green card process which lasted many long years.
Then the story of IV, the sacrifices of Aman Kapoor, how through your small contributions you made a difference, a new bill that respected education, determination and contribution. You were a part of history!!!
You marched in Washington DC amidst protesters on the other side telling you to go back home. You crossed thee other side of the street and handed a white flower to the loudest voice of opposition silencing them for good. In your small way when you marched to Washington you connected with your lifelong friends - friendships that had been created in the bus ride to Washington. That one day that you spent in Washington changed the course of generations.
You granddaughter looks up to you with moist eyes. Her mother sitting in the other room with your wife smile at each other in between tears. You son-in-law looks back at you in awe and admiration.
That one day - September 18th - when you became part of history!!!
Awesome ! and Inspirational !

You can start work with the company once you get the approval notice. Also check your approval notice dates... it should have from and through dates.
did you meant to say you can start once you get the "approval notice" (as you have written) or you meant to say "receipt notice"? if approval notice, then i am screwed !!! :-) approval from date is later than the date i started working for the second company. but receipt notice date is before the date is started...

Can some tell me what to expect after filing I-485, AP and EAD.
What are the steps after this one?
Someone was saying FP , Namecheck, background check, what are these things? Receipt Date , so many rules etc. We can start this thread so it will be useful for everyone.
1. Receipt notice
2. FP notice
3. While I-485 not approved{
Get/Renew EAD/AP
new FP notices
get RFEs
wait
}
4. Get GC
5. Wonder if all the stress was worth it :)

Hello,
Can someone help me with this question?
My wife has worked in the USA on L1 & H1 for 3 years. She then took a 3 year break due to the kids and is planning to go to work coming september or october. I don't have a green card yet so she has to get a H1 to work. We'll be applying for change of status from H4 to H1 but i wanted to know if her H1 counts in the H1-B 65K cap.
thanks
If she has been on an H4, she would need to apply for a fresh H1B visa (as against a transfer if she had been on an H1B). The new H1B visa would count against the H1B cap.

2010 report to congress by DHS ( http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/cisomb_2010_annual_report_to_congress.pdf ) will be useful to share with law makers ?
Like Figure 19: Unused Family and Employment Preference Visas FY 1992-2009 - Pg 35.
Can we have one nice document (1 page may be, if already exist we can just update) to share and discuss with lawmakers when we meet them ?

okay, so I'll try to be more clear.
I am 485(primary) pending since aug 2007 and my husband is 485(derivative) also pending, working on EAD since 2008 march.
We are separating, planning to divorce in august.
I am on H1 and planning on quitting my job.
What happens to my husband's EAD?
Is it still valid until 2010 september as noted on his card?
If my green card case gets denied based on me quitting my job, does his EAD get denied, too?
Does he have any options on keeping the 485 case on his own, or he has to apply/start over separately from the labor certification phase?

Hello,
Thanks RV and Snathan for the information.
I had also emailed the ivcoordinator@gmail.com with my case number.
I have also conveyed the news to my employer, but haven't heard anything from them yet.
Starting from the post office holding my mail to issues at office, there are too many problems that I have to address in 4 or 5 weeks time.
I am thinking of emailing the Consulate office to withdraw my visa application and passport
and enter the US through my AP. I do not think that I can wait in India for 12 weeks or more. Has anybody done this before and would this create any new issue?
Thanks.
My case was also stuck in the administrative processing. My attorney suggested to ask for passport. I asked consulate to return my passport, but I did not withraw my application. They returned my passport and I used AP to enter USA. My case is still with consulate office and they are asking my passport back. My attorney suggested to ignore their mails.
You dont have to give any reason why you want your passport back. I had written an email to consulate office to return my passport while my case is under administrative processing.
It takes really long time weeks before you will get visa and in this job-market it is hard to stay away from work for long.
You can search my info under thread 'Urgent help needed stuck in india'.

And the funny part, there is a quota of 226,000 on how many Family based GC are allowed into the country. If the right category is applied, people get GC's in 1-2 yrs.
Just curious if the Spouse holding GC applies in the right category is it still possible to get GC for spouse within 1-2 years?
Thank you.
