I realized this morning that my passport got expired on 4/4/2007. Can I renew it at any Indian embassy in U.S after the expiration date?
I have valid 1-94. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Go to Any Indian Consulate website and they will give you a checklist of documents required if your passport has already expired.

The h4 I-94 number and H1 I-94 numbers are the same.
That means my currne status is H1?
What is the best I should do now?

There is no finger printing for an EAD.
The finger printing is just for the 485.
As far as i know once you have an EAD you can use it right away, not having done your finger printing has no bearing on this.

I can't provide inputs from the legal perspective but my initial thought would be that this is illegal. Hope you get helpful answers and hope you are not one of those who are trying to game the system. I am saddened by such posts which will further denigrate our nationality. Aren't we hated enough by other communities already that you have to come with such issues? I have never worked for any slave trading desi firm but due to accident of my birth (Indian nationality), I have had to endure dirty looks here by people who think I am on an H1B and have undercut their wages. It is time we all introspect within ourselves and realize that a lot of anti-H1B groups aren't that way because they are racists but that we've contributed to their negative perceptions to a certain extent as well. It's a sad sad world out there for us Indians. We are in many ways our own enemies. I rest my case. Peace.
(Note: I am not saying I am superior to others but not all Indians (like myself) work as white collar slaves for desi companies and yes, I am proud of my 'genuine' L1 visa). I know a lot of TCS employees who were 'brought' here on L1 visa and weren't really paid in dollars. It makes my blood boil that I get categorized with these crooks just because somebody decided to find loopholes in this very useful visa category.
I am well aware of a company which is charging $130 ph and still paying 32K per year for people in L1.... they are so stingy and never want to give a penny more.

In promotions , do job description matters or the title ?
If you take a promotion you would have to start all over again as your job responsibilities would change. Your employer would have to file the labor again as he would have to test the labor market against your new responsibilities.

Quick question - 485 may not be adjucated within 180 days. So, is it safe to take promotion after 180 days?
I got promoted with a hike and then demoted with pay cut. It is all because my attorney was not agreeing with it as per the law. So it not only depends on the company, but also with the attorney you have.
As per the law, you can get promoted to VP or CEO. But once your 485 is adjucated, you have to take up the role for which your LC is filed. I do not know how insane the person is who formed this law, but it is the reality.
Again, if the person stays with the same company where the labor is filed and if 485 is pending for more than 180 days, then there is no problem in promoting this person. This is again as per my attorney. So this entire stupid law messed up my career.

Starting a new thread so members can make use of our experience at SAN JOSE.
Post all congratulatory notes in the other thread.
Only suggestions here please:
1) Any placards must have the word LEGAL in big black bold letters. Its very easy to read legal as il-legal when you are driving by in a car....
2) I think its a good idea to pre plan the route so you can choose big side walks... ideally 2 miles round trip is very easy to do-- also print the route map and directions and distribute so organizers wont have to stay in front at all times
3) choose spots where the sidewalk is really big so you can assemble.. at different rendezvous points.
4) ensure that at no point pedestrians are skipping signals..
after we obey every rule there is....
befriend the police... smile at everyone....
other partcipants please add... to this thread...

Just wanted to post a suggestion. (one that you already made Rangaswamy).
We need to send a thank you note to the local police, for support in terms of logistics or helping in maintaining the law and order or just a thank you note for being so helpful. This can be a letter to the poilice department on any other means. I feel we should appreciate their efforts although they were doing only their jobs, But it was a job well done.

In the next few days/weeks, we will start the same from experts, talk show hosts etc about CIR. Some one with a good credibility has to jump on "Break down CIR into pieces" and the rest will join the bandwagon. Separating legals from illegals, Employment based from Family based and doing some thing with it is better than the status quo. For now, status quo is better than S 1639

You may need a lawyer but you should be fine.
By the next bulletin EB2 will move back to Jan 1970 long before most of us were born...or to U category.
I have absolutely no expectation from DHS other than getting RFEs.....RFE will be the name of the game from now on.....it boosts the economy in a way since lawyers and attorneys get to make money at the cost of hapless applicants and FEDEX and UPS also get their cut with all those priority mailings/deliveries.
Time to rethink if it is better to stay in the US as unwanted or be in a country were your skills are wanted.
The US economy as per all indicators are heading for a painful and sustained recession followed by an inflation a situation absolutely detrimental for immigration.
That's my 2 cents.

No supporting papers needed in our case as she was getting the Tuition Waiver as well as Research Assistantship. So, I am not sure how would it had worked if there was no RA. It all went through. The application was approved in around 4 week’s time.
In the absence of assistantship, they need proof of support for education (tuition, books, etc). The bank statement is a proof of support.

i have read somewhere in this forum that the new EAD fee structure is a one time EAD fee and everytime u renew it, there is no fee associated?? I must have been dreaming then..
No you were not dreaming :) ..but that structure comes into effect after July 31st. Also, petitions filed under June VB (till 08/17) will be under the old fee structure. Thus an annual renewal fee of EAD will be charged.

I am no longer in the race. My race is over. But to look back here is what we did
a) Visited Washington DC , mostly on our own expense
b) Organized numerous meeting in NJ to increase the awareness
c) Coordinated DC rally
d) Handed overthe fliers at the India day parade urging people to come and help.
e) On the negative side for few , I also participated with few others to make all IT jobs, zone four.
What we were trying to do was not only for oneselves but ourselves. Unfortunately, the awareness is just not there. Ideally, I would have expected people with later priority dates to be more active but they are not . Almost all of "active" us had PD from early 2006 or earlier and most of them EB2. Now guess what, we are done and we could have been a great and powerful organization, but for your support. Hence, I have issues with the folks in our community for the following reasons
1. Not looking out for themselves.
2. Expecting too much from one group/persons and not taking inititative themselves.
3.Not educating themselves on what is the difference between legal /law and administrative rules, DOC VS DOL VS USCIS.
4.Not being able to analyze what can be done or cannot not be done.
5.Just being afraid to even talk to a lawmaker.
6.Asking those who take inititatives do things with an authority as if we were paid to do this on your behalf.
7.Not realizing how much your are loosing or can loose because of your precarious situation.

Nobody wants to contribute any money and wants it all free. They will pay lot of money to lawyers though.
