What are the chances of this bill getting passed? 10% or less? When is this bill going to be voted on? one good thing is Sen Kennedy is one of the co-sponsors and he's got some pull in the congress.

whome do you want to kill buddy?
I wonder if you ever came across a word called "protection" or "self-defense". If one owns a gun does that mean he intends to kill someone? And I know you are not being funny here (as your name suggests) :)

even though you personally have been told this numerous times.
sometimes the sign of "smartness" is to adapt arguments to presented facts not keep repeating yourself sir!
decreasing to 20/mth does NOT increase the number of contributors proportionately and make up for funds. there is a small increase but many 50/mth people also switch to the lower amount (why should i if other's don't?- see your own example- you could have continued 20/mth- your ego that the option was closed to new people made you switch of entirely)
also many of the 20/mth contributors only notionally join up, they cancel the payments soon enough. the net results is a very poor flow of funds. i don't know how much more explicitly i can explain this.
you have the option of paypal to contribute smaller amounts. but you want the convenience too...lots of take...little give.
today the total recurring contribution barely funds our basic needs let alone lobbying. the fact is that if people don't step up, we can all shut down and go home. then let's stew with 1/1/00 or 2001 dates and wonder if someone will help us in the altruistic mode. or maybe you can then step up and give 20/mth again at that point? :)
as you well know the motivation to proactively do something is not high in our community. everyone states their own reasons- the result however is poor participation. you are of course aware that members miss the rally because they were sightseeing in the DC area...
as for the guy with 0 contributions...you know rajesh...everyone starts like that...this guys has spent a long time like that...maybe too long...but that's his personal deal. he can give a lower amount by paypal...he just can't make himself give at all. whatever, i'm not passing judgements actually- i'm pointing out to you as one who has been around- that it does NOT deserve a promotion star. if giving nothing deserves it, you might as well not be here, we might all as well leave too. because there is no free lunch...or dont you know that by now?
it would be nice for a change to see a senior member like you take proactive initiatives and help with the real job of convincing congress to provide relief rather than spend time constantly quibbling over donation amounts and repeating ad nauseum how you stopped your 20/mnth contribution because the option was closed to new contributors...we know already...
frankly we could do with a different contribution for once.
btw thanks much to all those who contributed in the recent drive, your help is much appreciated by everyone. please consider a recurring contribution. i know that on the face of it 50 sounds a lot, but think about it as one family meal/movie given up in a month for a cause that's very important to you....

Dear All,
Can we determine to pool in at least 200,000.00 (each to contribute at least 300 dollars) so that we can at least hope for GC in few months and not years.
Please help yourself.
My contribution for April:
Donation to Support Immigration Voice (User: Caliber)
$50.00 USD for one month
Effective Date: Apr. 1, 2009 $50.00 USD
Is it a guaranty or just assumption that we get GC in few months if we pool $300 ??? sounds to me is a guaranty.. can you back this up with reasonable explanation????

Excellent news.
Now we are getting support from both the parties.
First the State Governors wrote a letter in favor of Legal High skilled Immigrants and now the GOP writes to the Dems in favor of Legal High skilled Immigrants. We can't ask for anything more than this. This is the right time.
We should bang on people like Zoe Lofgren's doors and ask them to create a bill which would only deal with us - Legal High skilled Immigrants. I think all the immigration bills presently on the floor has both legal and illegal immigration and so it would be diificult to pass them. In this present atmosphere a bill on legal high skilled immigrants could easily pass.
Core IV, please look into this and provide directions.

Thank you for expressing your concerns regarding the Department of States visa policies.
You raise compelling points, and your argument is an illustration of why we should work to ensure our visa polices are sound, reasonable, and equitable. Until we enact comprehensive immigration reform, we are likely to be faced with similarly difficult situations. Should legislation relating to this issue come before the Senate, I will certainly keep your views in mind.
Thank you again for contacting me.
Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown

COMMENT ON UNANIMOUS CONSENT AGREEMENT
WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senators Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), Mel Martinez (R-Fla.), Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) today released the following joint statement regarding the unanimous consent agreement to bring comprehensive immigration reform legislation back to the Senate floor Monday:
Under the unanimous consent agreement reached today, the Senate will resume the immigration debate next week. Senate Republicans are united in their commitment to an open and full debate on multiple amendments -- just as we have done on other bills of this magnitude like bankruptcy and class action reform. We are willing to put differences aside so we can get on with the important work to be done securing our borders and grappling with the 12 million illegal immigrants currently living in our country. We are also in agreement that efforts to curtail the debate prematurely will only derail this process. We call on Senate Democrats to allow an open debate and votes on this complex and challenging issue.

I have been thinking for a long time to own a gun but due to my H-1B status could'nt own one. My I-140 was approved last year and now I am working on EAD.
I am wondering if anybody else in a similar situation purchased a gun; I mean after he/she started working using EAD. I tried to research the issue but the law is not clear on the subject.

People with grown up kids, I guess would prefer Canada over India. There are many problems starting with the education system, reservations etc. For kids who had been studying here from KG through grade 8-9 it's difficult to get dragged in the rat race in India, especially for normal kids who don't belong to any reservation category.
Yes in Canada we know that finding a job is going to be difficult and we should brain-storm about how to tackle this problem?
What skillsets are in demand? Anybody has idea?
I also have a wild idea like US companies may look at Canada as a outsourcing destination if given very competitive package. One of the biggest advantage will be proximity to the US, so better control over quality etc. That may not turn into a big boom but is a possibility.
My company has offices in both canada(toronto and vancouver) and US .. i have worked for extended periods of time in canada. I agree that career development oppourtunities are limited due to economic reasons, but I there is no way toronto or vancouver can be considered "racist". And talking of high skilled workers, who said there is absolutely no discrimination in the US ? Isnt that what programmers guild and other labor unions are all about ? how come so many people support the blue collar illegal aliens (mostly meat-packers and lettuce pickers), but nobody cares about us, tax-paying, law-abiding highly skilled people ?
The difference is at least the canadian immigration policy doesnt institutionalize the discrimination by making us wait in limbo forever, unlike the US laws. At the end of the day, I would rather live with "limited career development" opportunity in canada and change employers at will than be surrounded by plenty of such opportunity but have my hands tied behind my back by the US laws.
As for "discrimination", we as immigrants always will have to bear with some discrimination, subtle or overt, from the native-born white collar workers whether in the US or anywhere else in the developed world. Our home country is the only one where you can expect to go and join the workforce without discrimination.

everyone loves their money....but think if nothing will change how much of your loved money you will spend every year to renew EAD and AP...just do the calculations and you will think that it is worth to part some of our loved money..
No offense Nik..but dude my company actually pays for it..so no loss..in renewing EAD..but unfortunatly my EAD is not yet approved..so I am not yet there.....SAD
