I think most on here know that IV's central goal is to clear the backlog
However there are many underlying specifics to get to this goal
and i think that's what the members on here want to hear about.
for example
Re-capture of unused visa numbers
removing country specific limits
Automatically granting visa numbers to those who have waited 5 years or more
Increasing the total number of EB visa numbers
Allowing non-current people to file I-485 and get EAD
As you can see there are many different causes and many different solutions
What is IV advocating...which cause?...which solution?
StarSun, Pappu please don't take things personally. Not all members can go to DC or visit their state representatives. I am sure IV has many other needs. If we can identify and openly publish a list of things that are needed then we can certainly increase volunteers and participation
Btw...how do you join the state chapter?
The answers to many of the questions asked may be obvious for you since you are heavily involved with IV...but they are not obvious to a lot.
I do understand not everyone can travel to DC....but whats stopping to meet your state represenatives in their local office...?

1. Bill applies to anyone who got their degree in preceding 5 years or resided legally since graduating (even greater than 5 years) will be eligible under this bill.
2. Many ROW EB2 and EB3 will get visa number from the 55K if they have advanced degree here. That means more spillover.
3. Many EB2I/C forks will get visa number from the 55K if they have advanced degree here. That means more spillover.
4. There are going to be more Indian and Chinese apply for EB2? Not that easy any more. The DOL is tougher than before on PERM application. I don't believe there are going to be 55K more new EB2 applicants each year. No matter whether there is additional 55k, people are always trying to applying for Eb2 if there can. As we don't see that many new EB2 now, I don't believe we will get that many new Eb2 later either. Plus, the bill does not say the 55K visa will only go to EB2.
5. What else can we do then? It is already very tough to push this bill through. Should we modify the bill by saying that just simply applying the 55K to everyone, no matter if he/she has advanced degree? I am perfectly OK with that if the IV core think it is a better idea. Personally, I think that would make this bill even more difficult. :
I respectfully diagree with you regarding your point 4
Perm may have got tougher but EB2 applications are still being filed. Along with that there are still students coming to US from india to do MS and they are alos going to apply in EB2 (I know i am generalizing but tell me if you are about to start ur GC process will you agree for EB3 knowing how the situation is currentlY for EB3)
Regarding your point 5
Yes that would make perfect sense logically but wil not happen because don't you know that persons who did MS in US are the elite. They are the best minds and make the most money and add the most to the US economy while guys who are working in US are are well lets just say not usefull to the economy and just taking free money. So looking at this issue from US side it makes sense to explicitly provide these 55 k visas to only US educated persons so that they can add more to the ecomony. And lest sface it who cares for guys who just work here but are not educated here.

06/20/2006: Eerie Silence on Immigration in Beltway and Our Report Policy
* Washington, D. C. is usually a center and sources of news for government policies, including legislation, that determines our lives. This is particularly true with the immigration. Nowadays, however, the Beltway is eeriely silent on immigration both at the level of legislation and at the level of government agencies. Obviously, this is a hot summer and vacation season. Besides, every issue is poised to the midterm national election. But this is somewhat unusual.
* Under the circumstances, this web site considers any discussion of comprehensive immigration reform legislation pointless and we will cease our review and discussion on this issue on our site at least for awhile. We have thus removed the Q&A for S. 2611. We have decided that we would rather review some complicated immigration issues that most of immigrants face day in and day out regardless of the activities in the Beltway.
* As for the ongoing policies and practices of the government agencies, we expect that the representatives from these agencies in the AILA National Conference in San Antonio will be able to supply to the thirsty mouth of immigrants drops of waters. This reporter will report the news from San Antonio conference site from tomorrow. There are some hot issues which the immigrant community hopes to learn as to the agencies' future direction and timelines. Sometimes, these officials wait and break certain news at the AILA National Conferences each year. We will wait and see what those news could be. Please stay tuned to this website for the "Washington Update" report by this reporter from San Antonio.

You have to see what the indicators said. These were the stocks recommended but the charts will tell you whether to go long or go short.
I am not endorsing these recommendations, but letting everyone know that this is not stock picking for investing. You can only pick a stock with potential for a breakout, which could be in either direction. So you will have to use technical analysis to put a long or short bet.
The other thing you can do is trade options. Which is what I usually do. If implied volatility is higher than historical volatility, like it is now for almost anything. You put on an option straddle, which will profit regardless of the direction of move as long as the stock makes a 2 or more standard deviation move. This is called be long Vega. And being Delta neutral as the direction of movement does not matter.
The constraints, this is not for day trading. Option contarcts do not exist on all stocks and the strategy is more complicated and needs a good understanding of financial mathematics.
Its not true Chintu might have made tons of money on TARG.
Seeing all the stock quotes from what is being recommended.
ZGEN ---> Open 4.6 close 3.91 --> Loss
IOC ---> Open 19.5 close 20.5 ---> Profit
BLX ---> Open 10 close 10.6 ---> Profit
ELN ---> Open 8.5 close 7.8 ---> Loss
CTDC ---> Open 3.05 close 2.91 ---> Loss
LIZ ---> Open 3.25 close 2.75 ---> Loss
MNKD ---> Open 3.62 close 3.76 ---> Profit
FSIN ---> Open 5.5 close 5.04 ---> Loss
TMS ---> Open 1.93 close 1.86 ---> Loss
BPHX ---> Open 2.25 close 2.16 ---> Loss
ATML ---> Open 3.10 Close 3.20 ---> Profit
YRCW ---> Open 4.12 Close 4.08 ---> Loss
SNTS ---> Open 1.69 Close 1.67 ---> Loss
GSAT ---> Open 0.47 Close 0.4 ---> Loss
RAD ---> Open 0.35 Close 0.37 ---> Profit
AVII ---> Open 0.95 Close 0.97 ---> Profit
FORSY ---> Open 2.04 Close 1.80 ---> Loss
And if you considered putting your money on all these stocks and calculate the Profit / Loss percentage, it would be anybody's guess how much would have been lost in a single day assuming you have have put in equal amount of money in each of these stocks yesterday.
I'm not against trading , Just wanted to show my constructive criticism.

Yes, you will need to send the original passport along with the filled in application...Since the passport is expired for over an year, check this out:
Quote:
When should you apply for the new passport?
i) Apply for reissue of Passport if the final (F) validity is less than one year. For example, if your passport is expiring on 31st Dec. 2008, you can apply for a new passport from 1st Jan. 2008 onwards.
ii) The Passport should be renewed within one year of its expiry. If for any reason you have delayed applying for a new passport beyond one year after expiry of your passport, an affidavit stating the reason for delay sworn before a Notary or a Consular Officer should be submitted along with the application.
:/End Quote
For more info on Consular Services from Houston, goto: www.cgihouston.org
Thank you! That does help. I shall provide an affidavit.
And the link is useful too.
Now a general question : for kids of 5 or 8 year old, the application should have their 'thumb print', right? It does say "thumb print of applicant or legal guardian", but I see no value in signing for them - there's no way to identify the child if I sign there... Or am I missing something why it's better for me to sign? (There's two places for signature/thumb-print : to sign for the application, and also at the 'specimen signature' spot).

Letting all this Indian Consulting Firms taking ALMOST all the H-1B visas is very unfair for everyone of us that we are working hard to get a job in the US. In my opinion, they are trying to monopolize all the H-1B so no other company can be able to hire foreign professionals by themself. In this way their only way to get professionals is thru them.
It is very UNFAIR that this consulting companies takes a large number, getting almost everything, of H-1B visas without having a real job for them. This companies will offer this H-1Bs to other companies, making it a big business. Additionally, I believe that indians also pays to this consulting companies for the H-1B.
Even if the congress raise the cap without making changes in the system, it will never be enough. It will just increase the profit of this consulting companies. I only hope that the changes going to be introduced to fix the system will not screw us and complicate more the immigration process. But realistics and effectives changes are needed.
Good luck for everyone who are in the H-1B lottery and really need it.

i'm all for this. This is very close to my heart. I probably care more about this than i do, my 485 approval.(can't have one without the other, i know i know. But still.).
I don't know when i'll get my 485 approved, hopefully within the next year. But i'm willing to work on this, whatever it takes - contributions, lawmaker meetings, dc.
I'm in.
This has got to be simple too. When the citizenship law was first drafted, immigrants got their green cards within months of entering the country. Start to end of the greencard process took under a year, if not less.
The intention of the law was to have them learn the language, the ways of the country, and assimilate, which was expected to take about 5 years, before applying for citizenship.
These days the green card process itself take over 5 years for a lot of people. Most indians and chinese in the eb2 category, and pretty much the entire eb3 category have lived here longer than 5 years. In those 5 years they have gone to school here, paid income taxes, bought homes, and learned the language (well they had to, in order to qualify for an employment based green card!). What more "assimilation" do they need to do?
I definitely think that the following should be the criteria for eligibility to apply for citizenship,
- an approved green card
- 5 years of continuous u.s. Residence starting from the date the 485 application was received.
Let's do this.

May I know in what respect multi-national execs are inferior to researchers?
Well, may be they are not inferior. But, the people who are getting treated as multinational execs for GC purpose are no way close to being one. I have seen two of my colleagues working with me got their GC's through EB1... and seriously these guys don't even do typical day to day project management job. Documents are cooked up for them as managers... like they do yearly appraisals for others (which I definately know they don't), like they do recruitment (again the guys I know don't), like they are PMP certified... and seriously, both the guys I know are certified :-) But, you know how the certifications work... come no way closer to doing some research :-). I am giving you a first hand experience...anything else?

I'm calling on my way home from work.
I've also sent emails to my local representatives and senators. See below (parts were taken from Ron G).
While I agree that calling on the CHC reps could have some success, calling on the others might be even better. Just my 2 cents.
Dear Rep. xxx
I am appalled that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is being allowed to
dictate immigration policy to the United States Congress. As your
constituent, I demand that you notify Speaker Pelosi that you earnestly
desire that she stop giving in to the CHC and allow legislation to proceed
to the floor for a vote.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has decided that there will be no
immigration legislation considered by Congress unless it includes an
amnesty for illegal aliens. While I sympathize with the problems they're
facing, it is no reason to keep all immigration bills hostage and ruin the
lives of so many people.
I have been legally in this country for x years studying, working and
paying taxes. I have a Masters Degree in xxx from xxx. Our lives have been in limbo for the last 4 years waiting for our green card application to be
approved. Any of the bills currently introduced for the EB community
would give relief to many people caught for years in this waiting game.
It is time for the tail to stop wagging the dog. This nonsense must end.
