Fellow IVians,
We need to contact the campaigns of Senator Obama and Senator McCain and apprise them of our core issue. We all know that some relief bills are on the House's agenda but then given the actual time the Congress is going to be doing any legislative business, it is time to be prepared for the next presidency.
We can convey to both the campaigns that we are a 25000 strong �High Skilled Immigrants� advocacy group and can donate/campaign/put forward their case for them in this election.
A formal open letter to both the campaigns can be send as a start and then liaisons for immigration purposes can be contacted demanding their position about our issue.
I know that there is a stray mention of immigration related issues on the official website of both campaigns but if we can eke out something concrete regarding policy change and its implementation within a certain time frame after the elections it would be very helpful for our cause.

My wife was working for a company before. They had filed for her GC. She has an approved I140. She had to convert to H4 because of some legal reasons and could not continue to work for the company. Now she has a valid H4.
She has already been here 7 years on her old H1. Now can she file for a H4-H1 and get a 3 year visa based on an approved 140 ?
The lawyer says that the 3 year extension rule just states that H can be continued beyond 6 years based on approved 140 and so she can go back to a H1...
Anyone here has had a similiar experience ?

Earlier today, I mentioned this provision which would bar DHS from using funds to delay or rescind the no-match rule. The amendment passed by a voice vote, but in consulting with a knowledgeable source, it seems likely that the amendment will not have much affect. That's because it bars DHS from using funds from its 2010 budget for this purpose. As long as DHS rescinds the rule before September 30th (which now seems likely given yesterday's DHS announcement), no 2010 funds would be needed to achieve this result. This evening, I watched a debate on television between a proponent and an opponent of comprehensive immigration reform (CIR). HI..
My grand father and grand mother are trying to apply for visitor visa.. my grand father is a retired govt employee and grand mom is home maker.. my grandfather is coming on their own and we are not sponsoring them..he will be able to submit tax returns as he runs small business and owns 1 apartment and few lands my questions are:
1.what are the documents should he take for visa ?
2.how much of bank balance? (they say 6 months of bank statements is necessary)
3.cant he just say he's retired and take the asset evaluation and bank statements alone?
please help ...

If you have never been on H4, you can be on H4 for another 6 years.

Hello everyone ! 13 years ago i was charge with Lanercy-theft wich it was a 2nd deg misdemeanor and possesion of cannabis under 20 grams 1st deg misdemeanor i plead guilty and served 3 days in county jail (Florida) , now i'm 32 married to an American citizen and getting ready to adjust my status , i just want to know how hard it"s going to be this whole process , i dont want to be dinied or deported , thanks for any answers.

My friend John Lamb is an in house corporate lawyer by day and an immigration reform activist in his spare time. Maybe the fact that he's outside the immigration law world gives him some room for thinking outside the box since he's often coming up with creative approaches to changing immigration law. I want to that till how much time is the petition valid , if I dont go for stamping.
Also , suppose my company withdraws the petition, so now till how much duration my cap number is valid?
Expiration date will be mentioned on I-797 approval notice
you will be counted only once against cap. and you can be on H1/L1 for total of 6 years (without a break) - ofcourse assumption is that you never file for a GC

If I were going to spend over a year in a country which required a visa to visit (such as Nigeria), in order to study the local culture, which kind of visa would I need to obtain before hand? Business, work, study, visitor, etc?
